Obesity and Your Sight

In 2008, the Journal of American Nutrition published research that  foundobesity can lead to cataracts, the clouding of the lens of the eye. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness world-wide. The study found that obesity -- as measured by the body mass index -- substantially increases the risk of contracting the disease  by up to 30 percent. Taller men with bigger waist lines were also at increased risk of getting the disease. The researchers found that obesity causes problems with the eye cells that interfere with normal metabolism. The link between obesity and cataracts is still not completely understood, but it is believed that low-calorie intake may help lessen cataract development by decreasing blood glucose levels and increasing the antioxidant properties of blood . It just shows that watching your weight can help you keep seeing 20-20!
