Water Strategy

You know you’re supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day, but are you replacing the H20 with coffee and soda pop? The person who drinks eight glasses of fluid per day and includes coffee, tea, caffeinated soft drinks and alcohol, is ending up with a net fluid intake of approximately three glasses! That's because these beverages are considered diuretics, which means five glasses of fluid are being flushed out of the body with no real nutritional benefit to you. A good strategy for getting enough water: every eight ounces of a caffeinated beverage or alcohol consumed should be supplemented with eight ounces of a caffeine-free liquid, or better yet -- water.
