There has been a huge upswing in the number of smokeless tobacco products in the past few years; don't be fooled by the appearance of a healthier option!
All tobacco is horrible for your health. In fact a recent study found all forms of tobacco, whether it is cigarettes, cigars, a pipe, smokeless, or chewing tobacco, can cause you to have a heart attack. Researchers have found found using that tobacco doubles and in some cases can even quadruple the risk of a heart attack. Previous studies have also confirmed any sort of tobacco use increases your risk of cancer and stroke. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention:
- Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death.
- Worldwide, tobacco use causes more than 5 million deaths per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030.4
- Cigarette smoking is responsible for about one in five deaths annually -- more than 440,000 deaths per year, and an estimated 49,000 of these smoking-related deaths are the result of secondhand smoke exposure.
- On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.
Our children are at risk as well! More than 5 million children today will die a premature death because of tobacco use. If you don't smoke ... don't start! If you do smoke ... quit. You'll spare yourself and your loved ones countless unnecessary health risks.
