  Quinoa has gained popularity over the past decade. Known as a superfood, it is high in fiber and protein. In fact, it contains more protein than any other grain while also packing in iron and potassium. One half cup of quinoa has 14 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber. Quinoa is often referred to as a whole grain but is technically considered a gluten free super-seed. Grain or seed, it's a great addition to any nutritional regimen!
  • A valuable source of fiber, quinoa actually contains double the amount found in most grains. Fiber helps in the prevention of heart disease by reducing high blood pressure and diabetes, lowers cholesterol and glucose levels, and assists in weight loss by providing a sense of satiety for extended periods of time.
  • Quinoa is protein rich. It contains all nine essential amino acids -- a 'complete protein' -- which makes it an excellent addition to any diet. It is It is a great source of calcium content which helps prevent osteoporosis. Recent research indicates that calcium helps prevent weight gain by promoting more fat to be burned and less to be stored!
  • Quinoa contains iron which promotes healthy red blood cells and hemoglobin formation. Iron also carries oxygen from one cell to another and helps increases brain function.
  • Quinoa is a good source of the essential amino acid lysine which supports tissue growth and repair, helps the body absorb calcium and lowers LDL cholesterol!
  • Rich in magnesium which helps relax blood vessels, quinoa may also help in the reduction of Type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy blood sugar control. Other health benefits of magnesium include regulation of body temperature, detoxification, and the formation of healthy bones and teeth.
  • High in Riboflavin (B2), quinoa improves energy metabolism within brain and muscle cells and helps energy production in cells.
  • Quinoa is a good source of the antioxidant manganese, which helps prevent damage to mitochondria during energy production and protects cells against free radicals.
