Researchers recently noted that 40% of U.S. adults will have the condition by 2030. Sixty-six million adults, nearly one in three, currently either have arthritis or are living with joint pain. It doesn't have to be that way.  Studies found that arthritis patients saw a greater reduction in pain when they combined exercise, diet, heat and cold therapy, acupunture or glucosamine and chondroitin with their current pain therapy. Be sure to use exercises  that build the muscles around your joints but don't damage the joints themselves. The Mayo Clinic advises arthritis patients to focus on stretching and strength training, and to include low-impact aerobic exercise, such as walking, cycling or water exercises, to help control your weight. Before you start any complementary treatment, discuss it with your doctor to make sure it will help rather than hinder your arthritis management plan.
