Staying Active Pays Off!

New research, published in the journal PLoS ONE, found that older people who take part in at least 25 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise daily use fewer prescriptions and are less likely to be admitted to the hospital in an emergency. The study  compiled  information from 213 people with the average age of 78 that covered a four to five year period. Additionally, there is strong evidence that people who are active have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, depression and dementia.  This is a real danger for seniors; it has been reported that people aged 65 and over spend on average 10 hours or more each day sitting or lying down, making them the most sedentary age group! Want to stay pain-free, socially active and independent well into old age? Keep moving!
