Dieting and Bone Health

If you're cutting calories to lose weight, remember to look at the bigger picture and adopt a well-rounded weight loss program. Why is this important? A recent study found that cutting calories alone could lead to bone loss. Researchers compared two groups of people. One group dieted to lose weight the other exercised. Both groups lost about the same amount of weight, but the dieting group also lost two percent of their bone density. The exercisers showed no bone density loss. Cardiovascular exercise and strength training increases the mechanical stress on the skeleton and that stimulates production of new bone. Add some exercise to your program ... you'll gain bone strength while losing those unwanted pounds!
