Strength Training and Weight Loss

Some people think it's better to lose weight before starting a strength training program. There's a strong argument against that kind of thinking!

Strength training done in tandem with cardio-vascular exercise is by far the best way to go! The reason: while aerobic exercise is a proven fat burner, building muscle can be critical to ridding the body of excess calories.

Weight training helps you build muscle mass. The higher your muscle mass, the more calories your body burns! That rule holds true even when the body is at rest! For every pound of muscle you gain, your body will burn off 30 to 50 calories per day. Even while at rest! If that doesn't pump you up, nothing will!
