Exercise and Depression
A long-term study by the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research shows exercise plays a strong role in reducing depression. Researchers found that each exercise session immediately reduces depression.
It's not a cumulative effect. Endorphins aren't the issue; rather it's the ability of exercise to purge adrenaline that seems to help. What's more, it's not just aerobic training like jogging and biking that helps. One study found that elderly people who did strength training noticed a significant reduction in depressive symptoms, too!
For the best results, I recommend exercising five days a week, for at least 30-minutes per session.
