Hank from Rochester emails for a natural way to keep his arteries clear and healthy!.
Hank- the answer to your question is as sweet as it is easy to swallow!

Researchers now say that grape juice makes clogged and hardened vessels more elastic and less susceptible to further clogging! They asked a group of subjects with coronary disease to drink large amounts of purple grape juice- two eight ounce glasses a day. After a couple of weeks the flexibility of their arteries tripled! As an added benefit- LDL, bad cholesterol, lost much of it's abilities to stick to artery walls. Scientists attribute the health benefits to large amounts of flavenoids found in the juice.

The findings suggest that grape juice is a heart healthy way to get your daily quota of fruit!

Tracey from Southgate emails asking for a diet to reduce her risk of getting diabetes.
Tracey-here are some tips that just might help you live a longer- healthier life!

The most effective way to ward off diabetes is through weight loss and exercise ... but eating right also helps! Researchers say the more western the diet- the higher the risk of diabetes! A western diet includes things like red and processed meats- french fries- high fat dairy products- refined grains and sweets.

The diet that seemed to cut the risk of diabetes included food staples like vegetables, fish, poultry, fruit, and healthy whole grains.

Stephanie from Auburn Hills e-mails for help in overcoming a sports related injury.
Stephanie.. It's time to get that swimsuit out of mothballs!

Deep water running can allow you to continue working out despite conditions like tendonitis and fractures... even simple sprains and strains!

Here's how it works: Put a flotation device around your waist.. And find a pool deep enough that your feet don't touch bottom. Use a natural running motion.. And slice your hands through the water.

The most effective workouts are achieved with either extended workouts of 30 minutes or more... or short sprints with one minute rests in between. So the next time someone says you can't get in a good workout when injured.. tell them they're all wet!

Gary from Farmington Hills emails asking if barbecuing red meat makes it safer to eat.
Gary- before you light up the grill here's some research you may want to consider.

There's no doubt about it- Americans love them beef! Most of us eat beef at least every other day- and almost as much pork! The American Institute for Cancer Research says that eating more than three ounces of red meat a day can boost your cancer risk. The institute recommends eating more seafood, poultry, and game! The way you cook your meat is also important! Grilling meat at high temperatures increases cancer causing chemicals called H-C-As.

I'm no stick in the mud- enjoy that backyard cookout! But instead of grilling up a top sirloin- consider going with salmon!

Gail from Lincoln Park just had a baby- she wants to know how soon she can start the little one on a fitness program.
Gail- you're never too young to start on the good health habits that will last a lifetime!

New guidelines encourage parents to foster physical activity beginning in infancy. The guidelines call on parents to help develop movement and motor skill activity to help kids avoid becoming couch potatoes! To accomplish this try to: Minimize the amount of time your pre- schooler spends in front of a computer or tv. Toddlers between the ages of one and three should get in at least thirty minutes of physical activity every day!

Even infants can be prompted to use their motor skills. Put them on a blanket that allows free movement rather than a confining crib or seat! You're never too young to start!

Do you have a question you've been working on? Send me an email!
