Frank from Waterford has heard about a possible link between blood sugar and memory problems. He emails asking for more information.
Frank-- the latest research does seem to point in that direction!.

Researchers find that adults with high levels of glucose performed worse on tests of short term memory than those with normal levels. The part of the brain that's used for learning and memory were actually smaller!

High blood sugar levels mean the body can't effectively remove glucose from the blood and body tissues -- including the brain where its used as fuel! Right now researchers are examining whether the problem can be reversed through diet and exercise.

But think about this-- its one thing when improper diet affects the way you look--its different when it may affect the way you think!

Sue from Garden Heights is planning a family. She emails for the latest on supplements that can benefit fetus brain power!
Sue-- you're sure to find this research interesting! Researchers are now testing a supplement that can make babies smarter still inside the womb!

It's a nutrient called choline (co-lean). Choline is a B-type vitamin found in peanuts-- soy and eggs. Research shows that lab animals getting more choline in the womb have greater learning abilities! They're now testing the choline effect in humans. Pregnant women can get choline in either food or supplement form.

Scientists will test the learning abilities of the babies as they approach their first birthday. Until more research is done --a diet that's rich in choline could be just the right thing for your newborn.

Talk to a nutritionist for more information!

Bob from Livonia does a regular aerobic workout and wants to know if there's research showing the life span of folks who work out as opposed to those who don't.
Bob...the answer is...yes...and the findings are startling! According to a study of to-thousand men and women by the American Journal of Medicine.

Those who work out live an average of 3 years longer than those with sedentary lifestyles! The study is based on an average aerobic workout of 30 minutes or more. Additionally, people who smoke live an average of 5 years less than their non-smoking counterparts!

So if you want to live to be old and gray...it pays to get off the couch now!

Judy of Berkley wants to know how regular exercise is good for the heart?
Judy here are five examples you can bank on for a healthy heart!

1st: Physical activty reduces blood pressure -- and prevents high blood pressure!
2nd: Regular exercise lowers your cholesterol level by up to 24 percent.
3rd: After 3 months of activty...exercise actually reduces your body's ability to form blood clots by 52 percent!
4th: Exercise helps your blood vessels relax and contract more effectively.
And finally: After 10 weeks, you significantly lower your risk of heart attack even if you already have heart disease!

Remember...your heart is your most important muscle...so send it a valentine in the form of a good workout program!

Mike from Novi is looking for a workout program to help him get the most out of his golf game without losing flexibility.
Mike, if you want to add both distance and endurance to your game -- I've got just the ticket!

Choose weights that work your muscle to the point of failure or exhaustion.

Do 12 reps and one set of each of the following 7 exercises: squat(legs), bench press(chest), one arm row(back), lateral raise(shoulder), standing biceps curl, triceps extension, and abdominal curl. After the second week, increase the number of reps to fifteen to build endurance! Be patient and you'll see the results you want! As my friend seniors golf legend Gary Player says...if you swing fast you won't last...if you swing slow...you'll make all the dough!

Do you have a question you've been working on? Send me an email!
