James from Romulus emails wanting to know if there is any way he can slow down the aging process.
James, I dont have a secret potion to keep us young, but, I do have some encouraging news. Researchers have identified a group of genes in worms that not only prevent cancer but may slow the aging process. They are now looking to see if the genes work the same way in humans. Experts are encouraged because the worms the researchers were studying often share genes with humans. This new finding may also lead to creating drugs to mimic these genes and help people battle cancer and also live longer.

Stan, broccoli may be the answer. Researchers found, the extract from sprouted broccoli seeds reduced skin redness and damage by more than one third. They put the broccoli extract on different patches of skin and then exposed those areas to UV radiation. In some cases the extract reduced the redness and swelling by almost 80%! Another interesting benefit, the extract was still working 2 days later! Now experts are working to figure out how it should be applied to the skin.
