PETER'S PRINCIPLES - NEW IN PRINT
Matt from Ann Arbor emails saying he's having a hard time sleeping, but he doesn't want to take any medication. He asks if there's anything naturally he can do to get some more shut eye.
Good question Matt. there are so many people who have a tough time getting good sleep.
Most people are just doing the wrong thing right before they go to bed. The first no no is drinking alcohol. While it may help you to get to sleep intially, it tends to disturb your sleep later in the night-leaving you feeling sleepy the next day.
Next - exercise! It'll help you fall asleep at night. but make sure you do it early in the day and not right before bedtime.
Another thing that will keep you up at night is stress! If you bring work home with you-finish it up early in the evening so it doesn't linger into your bedroom. The same thing with food, don't eat right before bedtime.
Finally - try to go to bed at the same time every night and avoid those long naps during the day.
Rich from Canton is concerned about prostate health.
HeÕs been hearing for years that pumpkin seeds help promote a healthy prostate and emails for the lowdown.
Rich, unfortunately research shows that claims about pumpkin seeds and prostate health are most likely false. The seeds have been used for centuries to promote urinary tract health.
Some research shows that extract from the seeds can promote healthy urinary flow, but studies trying to link the seeds to prostate health have been a wash so far.
But don't toss out that pack of pumpkin seeds just yet! TheyÕre still a very healthy snack food! In fact the seeds have just one hundred forty eight calories Ð and twelve grams of heart healthy fat for every ounce!
Halloween may be historyÐ but it wouldn't hurt to keep a pumpkin or two around the house year 'round!
