Low vs. High Glycemic Meals
If you want to lose weight, it's not a bad idea to stay away from foods that are quickly digested and absorbed. According to a study in pediatrics, researchers fed 12 obese teenage boys different test meals on different days.
One test meal was low glycemic, which means the food contained less sugar and was digested slowly. Another meal contained foods with more starch and more sugar which are quickly digested and absorbed.
A third meal was somewhere between the two extremes. On the day the boys had the high glycemic foods, they ate 53-percent more calories later in the day than when they ate the medium glycemic meal. Furthermore, they at 81-percent more food than when they had the low glycemic meal.
Because highly refined grains, potatoes, and sugary foods digest quickly, they may leave you feeling hungrier later in the day than foods like veggies and slow cooking oatmeal.
