Clean Plate Club?

Despite what your mother may have told you, it's not always a good idea to clean your plate. If you find yourself dining out more than 3 or four times a week, here are some tips to avoid over indulging.

The typical restaurant meal has a staggering one-thousand calories. And that's without dessert or appetizers! One of the reasons why is that the average restaurant portion size contains 6-to 8-ounces of protein; whether it's fish, chicken, or beef. Most people shouldn't have more than 6-or 7-ounces of protein a day.

So, the next time you're having a big meal, you may want to pay more attention to the steamed vegetables than the chicken! My suggestion is that you always cut the portion in half. It's better to take home a doggie bag than to wear that food on your waist, hips, or legs.

So, here are some alternatives: share an entree; order two salads and double the vegetables. Or, order an appetizer as your entrée. Learn more about reducing your fat intake in my Advanced Nutrition Clinic.
